Ormskirk town centre gateway project
Rushworth is proud to be part of major city planning project for Ormskirk town centre. This exciting proposal is for a modern sculpture to form a new gateway to Ormskirk town centre. The eyecatching sculpture will stand at the end of Aughton Street at its junction with Park Road, forming a new gateway marker to enhance the recent improvements to Aughton Street.
The photograph shows the proposed sculpture superimposed to scale on a photograph of Aughton Street. The project is awaiting planning confirmation. The sculpture will be constructed from bronze and timber, with bronze bases. The timber is of the hard-wearing 'purpleheart' variety, which will weather over time, and will be coated with anti-graffiti paint. At the top of each marker there will be a 'seed' made of pierced copper, which will be illuminated at night, symbolising regeneration and growth, The gateway will stand 8 metres high - a similar height to the buildings at the Park Road end of Aughton Street.
The sculpture has been designed to be in scale with the nearby buildings, trees and street lights. Councillor Ian Grant, portfolio holder for planning, said: "This proposal is for an eye-catching, attractive feature which will complete all the recent improvement works in Aughton Street and the town centre."
